Root-Cause Naturopathic Medicine for Hormones, Gut Health, Chronic Disease & Whole-Body Wellness — Serving Newmarket & Upper York Region

Newmarket's Trusted Naturopathic Doctors

You’ve done the right things: seen your family doctor, had the bloodwork done. You’ve been told everything is “within normal range” — and yet you still feel exhausted, inflamed, hormonally unbalanced, digestively uncomfortable, or chronically unwell in ways that don’t have a clear conventional answer.

This is exactly where naturopathic medicine begins.

At PhysioChiroWellness in Newmarket, our licensed Naturopathic Doctors (ND) approach your health with a depth of investigation and a breadth of perspective that complements and extends what conventional medicine offers. We don’t dismiss what your family doctor has found — or hasn’t found. We start from there and go further: deeper into your hormonal picture, your gut microbiome, your nutritional status, your stress physiology, and the lifestyle and environmental factors that conventional blood panels don’t capture.

Naturopathic medicine is not about rejecting modern medicine. It’s about filling the gaps that modern medicine — pressed for time, constrained by funding, and organized around acute disease management — often leaves unfilled. Our Newmarket naturopaths work collaboratively with your existing healthcare providers, communicate openly about your plan, and build treatment strategies that are evidence-informed, individualized, and genuinely aimed at resolving root causes rather than managing symptoms indefinitely.

Serving patients from Newmarket, Aurora, Sharon, East Gwillimbury, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Keswick, Innisfil, and throughout the upper York Region — no referral required, extended hours available, direct insurance billing for eligible plans.

Why Newmarket Patients Choose Our Naturopathic Doctors

1. A Regulated, Licensed ND — Not a Wellness Coach

Our Newmarket naturopaths are licensed with the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO), a regulated profession that allows NDs to order lab testing and prescribe natural health products.

2. Time — The Rarest Resource in Modern Healthcare

Initial naturopathic consultations are 60–90 minutes, with follow-ups lasting 30–45 minutes. This extended time allows our ND to thoroughly assess complex health concerns and develop personalized treatment plans.

3. Answers Where Conventional Medicine Has Fallen Short

Many patients seek naturopathic care after ongoing symptoms despite “normal” test results. Our Newmarket ND investigates deeper to identify underlying causes and develop targeted, individualized treatment strategies.

4. Collaborative, Not Competitive, With Conventional Care

Our naturopaths work collaboratively with family doctors, specialists, and other healthcare providers. We focus on integrated care, ensuring naturopathic treatment complements conventional medicine when appropriate.

5. Fully Integrated With Your Whole Health Team

At PhysioChiroWellness Newmarket, your naturopath works alongside physiotherapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, and acupuncturists to create a coordinated, whole-body approach to your health and recovery.

6. Extended Health Benefit Coverage

Many Canadian extended health plans cover naturopathic medicine. Our clinic offers direct billing to eligible insurers, helping you access naturopathic care using your available health benefits.

Naturopathic Medicine at the Heart of Integrated Care in Newmarket

Naturopathic medicine’s greatest strength — and what makes it particularly powerful within the PhysioChiroWellness model — is its ability to address the internal, systemic environment in which all other treatments operate.

Consider a Newmarket patient with chronic lower back pain that is only partially responding to physiotherapy and chiropractic care. Our naturopaths discover through functional testing that the patient has a vitamin D level of 42 nmol/L (substantially below the 125+ nmol/L associated with optimal musculoskeletal function), a high-sensitivity CRP of 6.2 (indicating systemic inflammation), and a gut dysbiosis pattern that is contributing to systemic inflammatory load. Correcting these internal factors — through supplementation, dietary modification, and gut rehabilitation — creates the physiological environment in which the physical treatments can finally produce lasting results. The combination resolves a case that neither discipline could resolve independently.

Or consider a Newmarket patient in her late 40s dealing with worsening anxiety, disrupted sleep, weight gain despite no change in her diet, and a low-grade depression, which her physician has attributed to stress. Our naturopaths identify a perimenopausal hormonal transition, subclinical thyroid dysfunction, and a significant depletion of omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium. Addressing these biological drivers — rather than reflexively prescribing an antidepressant and a sleep aid — produces a recovery that is more complete, more sustainable, and better aligned with the patient’s values and goals. Our acupuncturist contributes to the hormonal regulation and sleep improvement. And our RMT addresses the physical tension and supports the parasympathetic recovery. The team makes the naturopath’s work more effective, and the naturopath makes the team’s work more effective.

This is what genuinely integrated medicine looks like. And it is what makes PhysioChiroWellness’s Newmarket clinic more than the sum of its parts.

The staff at PhysioChiroWellness are amazing! They go above and beyond to ensure that they assist me with my pain management and ensure I have all the tools to help in my recovery. Dr.Winter is amazing and he is really shows us that he cares and takes very good care of me and my family when we attend at the office for treatment. Felicia the massage therapist knows what she is doing and also helps me manage my pain. The reception at the front are super helpful and always keep my appointments on track. They also have a therapy dog Jackson! He is so sweet and always curls up beside and and calms me down when I am in chronic pain from my herniated disc. I love seeing Jackson in the clinic and he sets the clinic apart from other Chiropractic offices. Well done to PhysioChiroWellness for including a therapy dog for your clients. I truly appreciate you all especially our fan favourite Jackson.

I decided to edit my review. Now that I have been going there for so long, I must give some personal credits. Chris, the kinesiologist, is my guy for exercising, mobility and stretching; no one can top him, he is excellent. Felicia the Massage therapist is the best deep tissue therapist I have ever been to; listens to your aches and treats them one by one back to original state. Dr. Winter is the Chiropractor - caring, knowledgeable and brings you back to where you need to be physically. Jackson is an amazing poodle mix who makes everyone, including myself, feel at home, calm and relaxed. He is a therapy dog in my eyes; kind, welcoming, and shows you right to the room you need - Dr. Winter is Jackson's dad; Best duo ever. The front desk staff is beyond welcoming and makes you feel right at home. This place is my personal happy place. Sorry it was long, but can't recommend them all enough. At this point, they are all like family. I wouldn't change a thing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Naturopathy in Newmarket

What is a Naturopathic Doctor and how are they regulated in Ontario?

A Naturopathic Doctor (ND) in Ontario is a regulated healthcare professional licensed by the College of Naturopaths of Ontario (CONO). NDs complete a four-year, post-graduate naturopathic medical program at an accredited institution — following an undergraduate degree in a health science field — and must pass national board licensing examinations (NPLEX) to practice. In Ontario, NDs are authorized to perform physical examinations, order laboratory tests, prescribe natural health products, and — with additional certification — perform acupuncture and prescribe certain pharmaceutical agents. Naturopathic medicine is a regulated health profession in Ontario, distinct from unregulated wellness practitioners.

OHIP does not cover naturopathic services. However, many extended health benefit plans include naturopathic medicine coverage — commonly ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more per year depending on your plan. We offer direct billing to qualifying insurance providers. We recommend confirming your plan’s naturopathic coverage with your benefits administrator or by reviewing your plan booklet before your first appointment. If your plan does not include naturopathic coverage, we can provide itemized receipts for tax purposes, as medical expenses paid out of pocket may qualify for the medical expense tax credit.

No. Naturopathic medicine in Ontario is a direct-access profession. You can book an appointment with our Newmarket naturopath without a referral from your family doctor or any other provider. Simply call our clinic or use our online booking system to schedule your initial consultation.

This is a question we hear frequently. Functional medicine is a clinical philosophy and methodology that can be applied by practitioners from a variety of backgrounds — medical doctors, naturopathic doctors, nurses, and others. Naturopathic medicine is a distinct, regulated health profession with its own educational requirements, licensing board, and scope of practice. Many NDs practice functional medicine principles — and our Newmarket naturopath does — but not all functional medicine practitioners are NDs, and not all NDs identify explicitly as functional medicine practitioners. The most important question is whether the practitioner you see is regulated, clinically trained to the appropriate standard, and practicing within an evidence-informed framework.

Your initial consultation is 60 to 90 minutes. Your naturopath will begin with a comprehensive intake covering your full health history, current symptoms, medications and supplements, diet and lifestyle, sleep patterns, stress levels, family history, and health goals. A brief physical examination relevant to your presenting concerns may be performed. Based on this intake, your ND will discuss the clinical picture as she understands it, recommend any additional functional laboratory testing, and outline a preliminary treatment plan — which may include dietary changes, targeted nutritional supplementation, botanical medicine, lifestyle modifications, and other naturopathic interventions. You will leave your first appointment with a clear direction and a sense of being genuinely understood and heard.

This varies considerably depending on the condition being treated and how long it has been present. Acute concerns — such as a digestive flare, a new hormonal symptom, or an immune challenge — may respond meaningfully within weeks. Chronic, longstanding conditions — including PCOS, Hashimoto’s, IBS, and complex fatigue syndromes — typically require three to six months of consistent, systematic treatment before significant change is consolidated. Most patients notice meaningful improvements within the first four to eight weeks of their individualized plan. Naturopathic medicine is a process, not a quick fix — and the results it produces are correspondingly more durable than symptomatic management.

Yes. Pediatric naturopathic medicine is an area of genuine clinical strength at our Newmarket clinic. Children respond particularly well to naturopathic approaches — often better and more gently than pharmaceutical interventions alone. We treat children for eczema, recurrent ear and respiratory infections, food sensitivities and digestive complaints, anxiety and mood concerns, ADHD support, and general immune strengthening. Our naturopaths use age-appropriate dosing, child-friendly nutritional and botanical interventions, and practical dietary guidance that families can realistically implement.

For patients receiving care at Southlake Regional — whether for a chronic condition, a complex diagnosis, or cancer treatment — our Newmarket naturopath functions as a community-level complement to hospital-based care. Our role is not to interfere with your specialist’s management. We carefully review your full medication list for potential herb-drug and nutrient-drug interactions before recommending any natural health products. If appropriate, we communicate openly with your specialist team. Our focus is on supporting your overall health, nutritional resilience, stress physiology, and quality of life alongside conventional treatment — areas that the hospital system may not have the time or scope to address.

Yes. Naturopathic medicine has well-documented, evidence-based tools for anxiety, depression, and burnout — both as standalone approaches for mild-to-moderate presentations and as meaningful complements to conventional psychiatric medication and therapy. Our Newmarket naturopaths investigate the physiological contributors to mental health: B vitamin and omega-3 status, magnesium and zinc levels, thyroid function, HPA axis regulation, gut microbiome health, and inflammatory markers increasingly recognized as central to depressive and anxiety disorders. Naturopathic care does not replace psychiatric medication when it is genuinely needed — but it often produces meaningful reductions in symptom burden. It can support the eventual tapering of medications in collaboration with the prescribing physician.
