Registered Massage Therapists Delivering Clinical Results — From Pain Relief and Sports Recovery to Prenatal Care and Deep Relaxation

Newmarket's Trusted Registered Massage Therapists

There is a meaningful clinical difference between a relaxation massage at a spa and registered massage therapy at a regulated health clinic — and at PhysioChiroWellness in Newmarket, we practice the latter with the highest level of skill, professionalism, and patient-centered care available in the Upper York Region.

Our Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are fully licensed members of the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO), trained to assess and treat a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, pain syndromes, stress-related ailments, and soft tissue dysfunction with clinical precision and genuine therapeutic intent. Every session begins with a brief health history intake and assessment — because what you need from massage therapy depends entirely on what your body is dealing with right now, and effective treatment is never one-size-fits-all.

Whether you’re a weekend warrior nursing a hamstring strain from a run along the Tom Taylor Trail, a Newmarket commuter carrying chronic neck and shoulder tension from long hours on the Barrie GO line, a pregnant woman in the Stonehaven neighbourhood seeking relief from third-trimester back pain, or a tradesperson from Bradford managing the cumulative toll of a physically demanding career, our Newmarket RMTs have both the training and the genuine care to help you.

And because PhysioChiroWellness is a fully integrated multi-disciplinary clinic, your massage therapist doesn’t work in isolation. They collaborate directly with our physiotherapists, chiropractors, naturopathic doctors, and acupuncture practitioners — creating a coordinated approach to your care that produces better, longer-lasting results than massage alone.

Serving Newmarket, Aurora, Sharon, East Gwillimbury, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Keswick, and surrounding upper York Region communities — no referral required, direct insurance billing available.

Sports Massage

Sports massage in Newmarket supports athletes and active individuals by improving tissue quality, enhancing recovery, and reducing injury risk. It targets muscles stressed by training to maintain mobility and performance.

Massage Therapy as Part of Whole-Health Care in Newmarket

Massage therapy at PhysioChiroWellness is most powerful when it’s part of a larger, coordinated treatment strategy — and that’s precisely what our Newmarket clinic is designed to deliver.

Consider a patient dealing with chronic neck pain and tension headaches following a rear-end collision on Yonge Street in Newmarket. Their chiropractor restores cervical joint alignment. Their physiotherapist rebuilds the deep neck stabilizers and corrects the postural dysfunction that predisposed them to injury. And their RMT works session by session to release the muscular guarding, fascial restrictions, and upper trapezius trigger points that are perpetuating their headaches. Each treatment makes the others more effective — and the patient recovers far more completely than any single intervention would have produced.

Or consider a Newmarket mother in her second trimester. She sees our RMT for prenatal massage to manage her lower back pain and hip tension. Simultaneously, she’s working with our pelvic floor physiotherapist to prepare for delivery and address a developing pelvic girdle pain issue. The massage therapy and physiotherapy are sequenced and coordinated — each session building on the progress of the last. She moves through her pregnancy with more comfort and confidence than she experienced in her first.

This is what integrated healthcare looks like when it’s done properly. Not a collection of separate appointments — a genuinely unified team, working in your corner.

Whenever I have an appointment with Dr. Winters he addresses any and all of my concerns without any hesitancy, not to mention the bonus part of the appointment Mr. Jackson. I can’t even explain what his presence means to me during my appointments, whenever I feel down or stress ed he always senses it and does something to brighten my day. He’s such an amazing addition to my day when I see him. Jackson you are a one of a kind dog and I hope they are paying you well in treats 🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴

The staff at PhysioChiroWellness are amazing! They go above and beyond to ensure that they assist me with my pain management and ensure I have all the tools to help in my recovery. Dr.Winter is amazing and he is really shows us that he cares and takes very good care of me and my family when we attend at the office for treatment. Felicia the massage therapist knows what she is doing and also helps me manage my pain. The reception at the front are super helpful and always keep my appointments on track. They also have a therapy dog Jackson! He is so sweet and always curls up beside and and calms me down when I am in chronic pain from my herniated disc. I love seeing Jackson in the clinic and he sets the clinic apart from other Chiropractic offices. Well done to PhysioChiroWellness for including a therapy dog for your clients. I truly appreciate you all especially our fan favourite Jackson.

I decided to edit my review. Now that I have been going there for so long, I must give some personal credits. Chris, the kinesiologist, is my guy for exercising, mobility and stretching; no one can top him, he is excellent. Felicia the Massage therapist is the best deep tissue therapist I have ever been to; listens to your aches and treats them one by one back to original state. Dr. Winter is the Chiropractor - caring, knowledgeable and brings you back to where you need to be physically. Jackson is an amazing poodle mix who makes everyone, including myself, feel at home, calm and relaxed. He is a therapy dog in my eyes; kind, welcoming, and shows you right to the room you need - Dr. Winter is Jackson's dad; Best duo ever. The front desk staff is beyond welcoming and makes you feel right at home. This place is my personal happy place. Sorry it was long, but can't recommend them all enough. At this point, they are all like family. I wouldn't change a thing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Massage Therapy in Newmarket

What is the difference between a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and a regular massage therapist in Ontario?

In Ontario, “Registered Massage Therapist” is a legally protected title regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). RMTs must complete a minimum 2,200-hour accredited educational program, pass board licensing examinations, carry professional liability insurance, and maintain continuing education requirements. Only RMTs are eligible to provide receipts for extended health benefit claims. Practitioners who are not RMTs operate without regulation and cannot provide insurance receipts. All massage therapists at PhysioChiroWellness Newmarket are fully registered, active CMTO members.

RMT massage therapy is one of the most widely covered paramedical services in Canadian extended health benefit plans. Most employer group plans include annual massage therapy coverage, typically between $300 and $1,000 per year. We offer direct billing to most major insurers including Manulife, Sun Life, Great-West Life, Blue Cross, and Green Shield — so you don’t need to pay upfront and submit claims manually. OHIP does not cover private massage therapy.

No referral is required to book a massage therapy appointment at our Newmarket clinic. You can call us or book online directly. Some extended health benefit plans require a physician’s referral for reimbursement — we recommend checking your specific plan’s requirements if you are unsure.

We offer massage therapy sessions in 30-minute, 45-minute, 60-minute, and 90-minute formats. For most therapeutic concerns — particularly first-time patients — we recommend starting with a 60-minute session, which allows your RMT adequate time for a brief assessment and a full, complete treatment. For complex, widespread concerns or for deeply restorative treatments such as hot stone or full-body deep tissue, a 90-minute session is ideal.

Optimal frequency depends on your individual goals and presenting condition. For acute injury recovery or post-surgical soft tissue work, weekly or bi-weekly sessions are often recommended initially. For chronic pain management, bi-weekly appointments are typically effective. And for general wellness, stress management, and injury prevention, many of our Newmarket patients find monthly sessions highly valuable for maintaining tissue health and preventing tension accumulation. Your RMT will make a personalized recommendation after your first session.

The primary differences are clinical training, regulatory status, and therapeutic intent. Our RMTs are regulated health professionals with medical-level training in anatomy, pathology, and clinical assessment — not aestheticians trained primarily in relaxation techniques. Every session at our Newmarket clinic begins with a clinical intake, and treatment is guided by your health history and current presentation. Our RMTs provide insurance receipts, work within a clinical setting, and collaborate with your broader health care team. A spa massage is a wellness service. Registered massage therapy at PhysioChiroWellness is a regulated health intervention — and the results reflect that difference.

Yes — many headaches respond very well to massage therapy, particularly tension headaches and cervicogenic headaches originating from the neck and upper back. Trigger points in the upper trapezius, suboccipital muscles, sternocleidomastoid, and temporalis are among the most common sources of referred head pain — and releasing them through targeted massage therapy can produce dramatic and lasting reductions in headache frequency and intensity. If you have been managing chronic headaches in Newmarket and haven’t tried massage therapy, it is worth exploring before or alongside pharmaceutical management.

Yes — prenatal massage performed by a trained RMT is safe and beneficial throughout all trimesters of pregnancy. Our Newmarket RMTs are specifically trained in prenatal techniques and positioning supports, and are fully aware of the specific anatomical considerations and point contraindications that apply at each stage of pregnancy. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, placenta previa, or other specific obstetric concerns, please consult with your midwife or obstetrician before booking your first prenatal massage.

Yes — soft tissue massage therapy is an important component of motor vehicle accident rehabilitation. Whiplash injuries produce characteristic patterns of cervical muscle guarding, fascial restriction, and trigger point development that respond well to skilled RMT treatment. Our Newmarket massage therapists work within the HCAI framework and bill your auto insurance directly. Early treatment after an MVA consistently produces better outcomes — if you’ve been in an accident on Highway 404, Davis Drive, Yonge Street, or anywhere in the Newmarket area, we encourage you to call us as soon as possible.
