Trusted Acupuncture Clinic in Newmarket

For thousands of years, acupuncture has been used across cultures to relieve pain, restore balance, and support the body’s innate healing capacity. Today, a growing body of clinical research confirms what generations of patients have experienced firsthand: acupuncture works — and when delivered by a qualified, regulated practitioner in a properly integrated clinical setting, it works remarkably well.

At PhysioChiroWellness in Newmarket, our licensed acupuncture practitioners bring together the time-tested wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the precision of contemporary evidence-based practice to deliver acupuncture care that is safe, personalized, and genuinely effective. Whether you are managing chronic pain that has resisted other treatments, seeking natural support through a fertility journey, navigating the stress of a demanding career or long daily commute, dealing with migraines that disrupt your life, or exploring acupuncture as a complement to your physiotherapy or naturopathic care — our Newmarket acupuncture team is here, and we are ready to help.

What sets PhysioChiroWellness apart is not just the quality of our individual practitioners — it is the clinical environment in which they work. Our Newmarket acupuncturists collaborate directly with physiotherapists, chiropractors, registered massage therapists, and our naturopathic doctor, creating a coordinated, whole-health approach that makes every treatment more effective. Our Acupuncture Services in Newmarket, ON

Our Newmarket acupuncture practitioners are trained across multiple acupuncture frameworks and modalities, allowing them to select and integrate techniques based on what the clinical evidence and your individual presentation call for.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture

Traditional Chinese Medicine acupuncture restores the balanced flow of Qi (vital energy) through the body’s meridian system. When this flow is disrupted by stress, injury, or illness, pain and dysfunction can occur. Acupuncture helps rebalance the body, reduce inflammation, improve circulation, and activate the body’s natural healing response.

Acupuncture for Women's Health & Hormonal Regulation

Acupuncture can help regulate the hormonal system and support many women’s health concerns, including irregular cycles, PMS, PCOS, endometriosis, and menopause symptoms. Treatment focuses on restoring hormonal balance and improving overall reproductive health.

Acupuncture for Sports Performance & Recovery

Acupuncture helps athletes recover faster by improving circulation, reducing inflammation, and releasing muscle tension. It is commonly used for sports injuries, training recovery, and maintaining optimal muscle function for performance.

Contemporary / Anatomical Acupuncture

Contemporary acupuncture uses traditional needles but selects points based on modern anatomy and neuroscience. Points are chosen for their relationship to muscles, nerves, and connective tissue involved in a condition. This approach is particularly effective for musculoskeletal pain, nerve irritation, and injury recovery.

Acupuncture for Stress, Anxiety & Sleep

Acupuncture calms the nervous system and helps shift the body out of chronic “fight-or-flight” stress. Regular treatment can reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, lower stress hormones, and promote a deeper sense of relaxation and mental clarity.

Acupuncture for Headaches & Migraines

Acupuncture is a proven treatment for both tension headaches and migraines. It works by relaxing tight neck and facial muscles, improving circulation, and regulating pain pathways in the nervous system to reduce headache frequency and intensity.

Acupuncture for Pain Management

Acupuncture is widely recognized for its effectiveness in treating pain. By stimulating the nervous system, releasing endorphins, improving circulation, and reducing inflammation, acupuncture can help relieve both acute injuries and chronic pain conditions while supporting long-term recovery.

Fertility Acupuncture

Fertility acupuncture supports reproductive health by helping regulate hormones, improving blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, and reducing stress that can impact fertility. Treatments may support natural conception or complement fertility treatments such as IVF and IUI.

Acupuncture for Digestive Health

Acupuncture supports digestive function by regulating gut motility, reducing inflammation, and improving the gut-brain connection. It can help manage symptoms of IBS, reflux, nausea, constipation, and other digestive concerns.

Acupuncture During Pregnancy

Prenatal acupuncture is a safe and gentle treatment used to support mothers throughout pregnancy. It may help relieve nausea, back and pelvic pain, sleep issues, and anxiety, and can also assist with breech positioning and labour preparation.

Dry Needling

Dry needling targets myofascial trigger points — tight knots in muscle that cause local and referred pain. Fine needles are inserted directly into these points to release tension, restore normal muscle function, and reduce pain. It’s commonly used for neck and shoulder tension, headaches, sports injuries, and chronic muscle tightness.

Cosmetic Acupuncture (Facial Rejuvenation)

Cosmetic acupuncture is a natural treatment that stimulates collagen production, improves circulation, and relaxes facial muscles. The result is gradual, natural-looking improvements in skin tone, elasticity, and overall facial vitality.

Acupuncture as Part of a Coordinated Whole-Health Strategy in Newmarket

At PhysioChiroWellness, acupuncture is never the whole story — it is one powerful instrument in a carefully orchestrated clinical ensemble. And within our Newmarket clinic, that ensemble includes physiotherapy, chiropractic care, registered massage therapy, and naturopathic medicine, all working in active coordination.

Consider a Newmarket patient recovering from a motor vehicle accident on Davis Drive — presenting with whiplash, upper back pain, persistent headaches, and sleep disruption six weeks after the collision. Their physiotherapist manages the cervical joint and deep stabilizer rehabilitation. Their chiropractor restores thoracic and cervical alignment. And their RMT addresses the muscular guarding and fascial restrictions. Whilst their acupuncturist works session by session on the pain modulation, the inflammatory response, the sleep disruption, and the anxiety that so commonly accompanies MVA trauma. Each discipline amplifies the others. The patient recovers more completely and more quickly than any single intervention would have produced.

Or consider a Newmarket woman in her late 30s pursuing IVF at a fertility clinic. She comes to our acupuncture team for cycle-timed fertility acupuncture. Simultaneously, our naturopath optimizes her nutritional status — particularly folate, CoQ10, vitamin D, and omega-3s — and addresses subclinical thyroid dysfunction that had been affecting her cycle. The acupuncture improves uterine blood flow and reduces the cortisol that suppresses her reproductive axis. And the naturopathic work creates the internal biochemical environment in which the acupuncture is most effective. The combination is what the world’s leading fertility centres recommend — and at PhysioChiroWellness Newmarket, patients can access it without managing appointments at multiple separate locations.

Or consider a Newmarket teenager with a concussion sustained at the Ray Twinney hockey complex. Their physiotherapist leads the vestibular and cervicogenic rehabilitation. Their chiropractor addresses upper cervical joint dysfunction. And their acupuncturist works on the headache frequency, the autonomic nervous system dysregulation, and the sleep disruption that are perpetuating their post-concussion symptoms. Together, the team guides the young athlete to a complete and safe return to sport — faster than any single discipline could achieve alone.

This is integrated medicine practised with genuine commitment. This is PhysioChiroWellness Newmarket.

I can’t even explain what his presence means to me during my appointments, whenever I feel down or stress ed he always senses it and does something to brighten my day. The staff at PhysioChiroWellness are amazing! They go above and beyond to ensure that they assist me with my pain management and ensure I have all the tools to help in my recovery. Dr.Winter is amazing and he is really shows us that he cares and takes very good care of me and my family when we attend at the office for treatment. Felicia the massage therapist knows what she is doing and also helps me manage my pain. The reception at the front are super helpful and always keep my appointments on track. They also have a therapy dog Jackson! He is so sweet and always curls up beside and and calms me down when I am in chronic pain from my herniated disc. I love seeing Jackson in the clinic and he sets the clinic apart from other Chiropractic offices. Well done to PhysioChiroWellness for including a therapy dog for your clients. I truly appreciate you all especially our fan favourite Jackson.

I decided to edit my review. Now that I have been going there for so long, I must give some personal credits. Chris, the kinesiologist, is my guy for exercising, mobility and stretching; no one can top him, he is excellent. Felicia the Massage therapist is the best deep tissue therapist I have ever been to; listens to your aches and treats them one by one back to original state. Dr. Winter is the Chiropractor - caring, knowledgeable and brings you back to where you need to be physically. Jackson is an amazing poodle mix who makes everyone, including myself, feel at home, calm and relaxed. He is a therapy dog in my eyes; kind, welcoming, and shows you right to the room you need - Dr. Winter is Jackson's dad; Best duo ever. The front desk staff is beyond welcoming and makes you feel right at home. This place is my personal happy place. Sorry it was long, but can't recommend them all enough. At this point, they are all like family. I wouldn't change a thing.

Frequently Asked Questions — Acupuncture in Newmarket

Does acupuncture hurt?

This is the question nearly every first-time patient asks — and the honest, reassuring answer is that acupuncture is far less uncomfortable than most people expect. Acupuncture needles are extremely fine — far thinner than hypodermic needles used for injections or blood draws — and insertion is typically felt as nothing at all, or as a very brief, subtle sensation. Once a needle is placed, patients may notice a mild heaviness, warmth, tingling, or dull ache around the point — a sensation called “de qi” in Traditional Chinese Medicine, which is considered a positive indicator of point activation. Most of our Newmarket patients enter their second session significantly more relaxed than their first, and many fall asleep during treatment from the third or fourth session onward.

Yes. Acupuncture performed by a qualified, regulated practitioner using sterile, single-use needles is one of the safest healthcare interventions available. Our Newmarket clinic uses only individually packaged, sterile, single-use needles that are safely disposed of after every session. Serious adverse events from properly performed acupuncture are exceptionally rare in the published literature. Minor, transient effects — very occasional mild bruising at needle sites, or a brief sense of light-headedness immediately after a session — are occasionally reported and resolve quickly. We conduct a thorough health history intake before your first session to identify any contraindications or precautions relevant to your individual situation.

OHIP does not cover acupuncture. However, many extended health benefit plans include acupuncture coverage — typically ranging from $300 to $1,000 or more per year, depending on your plan. Coverage is generally contingent on treatment being performed by a practitioner with the credentials specified in your plan — most commonly a registered acupuncturist (R.Ac.) or Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner (TCMP). We offer direct billing to qualifying insurance providers. We recommend confirming your acupuncture coverage details with your benefits administrator or by reviewing your plan booklet before your first appointment.

The optimal number of sessions depends significantly on the nature of your condition, how long you have been experiencing it, and your individual response to treatment. As a general clinical guide, acute conditions — such as a recent sports injury or a new onset of back pain — often respond well within 3 to 6 sessions. Chronic, longstanding conditions — including persistent migraines, chronic lower back pain, or hormonal imbalances — typically require 8 to 12 sessions before significant, stable improvement is consolidated. Fertility acupuncture is typically recommended for a minimum of three menstrual cycles before assessment. Initial treatment frequency is usually once or twice per week, tapering to maintenance visits every 3 to 6 weeks once your goals are achieved. Your practitioner will give you a personalized, honest estimate after your initial assessment.

Eat a light meal one to two hours before your session — arriving on an empty stomach can occasionally cause light-headedness. Avoid alcohol and limit caffeine on the day of your appointment. Wear or bring comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows easy access to the arms, legs, lower abdomen, and back as needed — loose pants, shorts, or athletic wear work well. Avoid vigorous exercise immediately before or after your session. After your appointment, plan to rest or engage in gentle activity if possible — many patients experience a deeply pleasant, restful calm following acupuncture, and allowing yourself to receive that response fully enhances the treatment’s cumulative effect.

Yes — when performed by a practitioner trained in prenatal acupuncture protocols. There is a specific set of acupuncture points that are contraindicated during pregnancy — particularly in the first trimester — and our Newmarket practitioners are fully trained in pregnancy-specific protocols and strictly avoid these points. Pregnancy acupuncture is well-evidenced for nausea and hyperemesis, lower back and pelvic pain, sleep disruption, anxiety, breech presentation (using moxibustion at 34 to 36 weeks), and labour preparation. If you have a high-risk pregnancy, pre-eclampsia, or other specific obstetric concerns, please discuss acupuncture with your midwife or obstetrician before booking.

Yes. Acupuncture has a meaningful, evidence-supported role in integrative oncology — the emerging field of combining evidence-based natural therapies with conventional cancer treatment. Research supports acupuncture’s effectiveness for managing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, reducing treatment-related fatigue, managing post-surgical pain, improving sleep quality during treatment, and supporting the immune and overall wellbeing of patients undergoing cancer care. Our Newmarket acupuncturists are experienced in working with oncology patients and take a conservative, carefully considered approach — always reviewing your treatment plan and medications before recommending any acupuncture protocol for an oncology patient. We welcome the opportunity to discuss whether and how acupuncture might support your cancer care journey.

The primary difference is integration. At a standalone acupuncture studio, your treatment exists in clinical isolation — the acupuncturist has no direct relationship with your physiotherapist, your chiropractor, or your naturopath, and treatments across those disciplines are not coordinated. At PhysioChiroWellness Newmarket, your acupuncturist is an active member of a clinical team. When your physiotherapist identifies a movement restriction that acupuncture can support, they communicate that to your acupuncturist. When your naturopath’s hormonal work creates a context that makes acupuncture more effective, that understanding shapes your acupuncture protocol. And when your acupuncturist notices a pattern that warrants input from the chiropractor or massage therapist, they make that referral internally — without any disruption to your care. The result is a clinical outcome that standalone acupuncture, however skillfully delivered, simply cannot match.

Yes — and this is one of acupuncture’s most clinically significant and emotionally meaningful applications. Multiple clinical trials and systematic reviews support acupuncture’s role in improving reproductive outcomes both through natural conception and in conjunction with IVF. The mechanisms include regulation of the HPO axis, improvement of uterine and ovarian blood flow, reduction of cortisol and prolactin that suppress reproductive function, and support of healthy endometrial receptivity. Our Newmarket fertility acupuncture protocols are cycle-timed, individually tailored, and — for IVF patients — coordinated with your fertility clinic’s stimulation and retrieval calendar. Both partners benefit: female fertility acupuncture addresses the ovarian and uterine environment; male acupuncture has evidence for improving sperm motility, morphology, and count.
