What is Soft Tissue?
What is Soft Tissue?
A common analogy for human soft tissue is white fuzz inside of an orange peel. If you think about this white fuzz, what it is actually doing is connecting the orange peel with the consumable fruit. Soft tissue, also known as fascia, is the orange white fuzz of the human body; it is a connective tissue under the skin. It is a white membrane that wraps and supports the muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels of the body. So why is the fascia important?
In order to understand why soft tissue is important, first we need to take a look at its composition. Fascia tissues include tendons, ligaments, skin, fibrous tissues, fat and synovial membranes. They all work together as builders of the body’s internal soft tissue system. So why is it important? Well, one’s mobility, integrity and resilience can be determined in large part by their soft tissue healthy levels.
A great example of the importance of a healthy fascia are athletes. High performance activities require a lot of warming up and stretching. One of the reasons why is soft tissue. An athlete who has not stretched their fascial and muscles enough will be at risk of a tear and other soft issue injuries and adhesions. As a consequence, said athlete will experience restricted muscle movement, pain, soreness and their flexibility will be affected.
