Tips for Shovelling Snow
Winter is not over yet! As we approach its final stages we are seeing more snow now than in the rest of the season. Here are some tips for shovelling snow so you don’t hurt your back or get any injuries from it. Remember, prevention is the best cure of all.- Always warm up
Warming up before shovelling any snow will help prevent any injuries from lifting the snow. That may save your from some pain in the back, shoulder, knees, neck and more. - Use an ergonomic light weight shovel
Just like an ergonomic chair, an ergonomic shovel is designed to properly fit the natural positioning of the spine. These type of shovels feature a bend in the shaft along with a wider shovel base. - Push, push, push
Pushing the snow right to the edge instead of lifting it is so much easier. Keep the shovel close to your body, and alternate hand positions. - Bend and lift with your knees
If you absolutely have to remove the snow, do it in such manner that it is easier for your back to carry the load. Simply bend your knees, then scoop the snow, then straighten your knees to lift the snow. check the video for an example of this. - Lift lighter loads
Lifting lighter is easier, safer, and you actual;ly spend less amount of time shovelling your driveway.
