Massage for Gluteal Pain
Massage for Gluteal Pain
It is not a secret that sitting for long periods of time will lead to gluteal pain. Now, it is important to remember that sitting has a strong impact on the spine. That being said, pain in your buttocks could be cause by either an irritation of the muscles in the buttocks or an effect from sitting for too long. Massage could help you deal with this type of pain. Take a look:
There are three main types of gluteal pain:
- Lower butt pain is located right in the crease of the buttock at the back of the thigh. It can affect regular walking. It is most prominent when bending forward with straight legs. The main cause for lower butt pain is injuries in the tendons that attach the hamstrings to the pelvis area.
- Upper/outer butt pain shows up in the exterior side of the buttocks. It can also extend on the side of the legs. It may get worse by walking or while lying on the affected side at night. This pain is due to a repetitive asymmetrical movement pattern.
- Central butt pain is placed right in the middle of the buttocks, lower back, or anywhere along the sciatic nerve. Other symptoms of central butt pain is numbness and weakness in the leg. It can be caused by herniated discs, nine spurs, tight piriformis muscle, sitting for long periods of time or degenerative changes in the spine with age.
