Low Back Adjustment

Low Back Adjustment

Low Back Adjustment

A low back adjustment is a procedure in which trained chiropractor uses his or her hands – and sometimes a small instrument – to apply a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint. The goal of low back adjustment is to correct structural alignment and improve your body’s physical function. Contrary to popular belief, no special preparation is required from the patient before a back adjustment. However, the patient may require a series of visits to a chiropractor before deciding to treat the back pain with a back adjustment.

At the initial visit, the chiropractor will ask questions about the patient’s general health history and perform a physical exam, with particular attention to the spine. Your chiropractor may also recommend other examinations or tests, such as X-rays.

Many health insurance policies cover low back adjustment, but you might want to check to see how many treatments are covered in a given time period.

Additional therapies

Additional therapies may recommend other treatment approaches in combination with back adjustment, such as:

  • Heat or ice
  • Massage
  • Stretching
  • Electrical stimulation
  • Exercise
  • Weight loss
