How to Know if You Have Jaw Dysfunction
How to Know if You Have Jaw Dysfunction
Jaw dysfunction, also called TMJ is a disorder presented in the temporomandubular joint. TMJ can cause pain in the jaw area including bones and muscles. Here is a video on how to know if you suffer from TMJ:
Symptoms of TMJ disorders may include pain or tenderness of the jaw, aching pain around ears, pain while speaking, problems with chewing, facial pain or “tired feeling”, swelling, locking of the joint, and popping of that jaw.
Some types of TMJ may occur because the rotating disk separating the top and bottom jaw eroded or is not aligned properly. It can also be caused by damage in the cartilage due to arthritis, and by a tremendous and unexpected force in the joint. TMJs can also happen from injuries in the neck area, grinding of street, and stress.
Treatments for TMJ may include physiotherapy, acupuncture, chiropractic, and massage therapy. When treating TMJ some techniques such as heat and ice, stretching exercises, ultrasound, and others are often used for optimal results. It is usually recommended to eat soft foods if dealing with a form of jaw dysfunction. You should not put more pressure into the area such as holding a phone or resting your chin on your hand.
