Is there a hip adjustment treatment?
There are multiple adjustments for the hip, depending on the location of pain, restricted movement or area of discomfort. Besides adjustments, a combination of soft tissue treatments can be used for relief of hip pain.
How does chiropractic care help me deal with hip pain?
Chiropractic care can help increase the range of motion within the hip and thus affecting better movement of the SI joint and low back. Adjustments allow for better movement of the joint it self while allowing the muscles and ligaments in the area to relax and help decrease pain.
What are the main causes for hip pain?
There are many causes of hip pain. Inflammation of the structures within the hip joint or the surrounding ligaments and muscles from an injury or illness can lead to inflammation within the socket. Inflammation of the outside of the up, known as bursitis can also be a source of pain. Osteoarthritis- among older adults is the most common cause of hip pain. Excessive running, walking, bending, crouching and lifting can cause micro trauma in the area and lead to over use injuries. Another source of hip pain is referred pain- pain from a different part of the body. Patient can experience pain in the low back and hips but could be coming from SI joints, disc herniations, spine osteoarthritis and most commonly sciatica.
How do you determine the root cause of my hip pain?
The root cause hip pain is determined through a careful physical examination consisting of range of motion, various orthopedic tests, family and personal history as well as gait analysis. A personalized treatment plan is created that includes chiropractic adjustments, exercise therapy, stretching and strengthening exercises.
Can hip pain be a symptom of another health condition?
Hip pain can be symptom of another health condition such as arthritis of the spine, disc herniations, sciatica, Piriformis syndrome, abnormal knee and walking movements.
Can chiropractic help me prevent the degeneration of arthritis in the hip area?
Chiropractic care can help prevent further degeneration of hip and slow down the progression of arthritis. Along with adjustments, stretching the joint and treating the muscles can help slow down the process.
Are there any complementary therapies I should do along with chiropractic?
Along with chiropractic care, muscle release therapy, passive modalities such as IFC and laser treatments, acupuncture are good therapies to consider for the best treatment of hip pain.
Are there any non-force therapies a chiropractor can perform for hip pain?
Yes, non force chiropractic adjustments such as using the pelvic drop piece on a table can be used. Passively stretching and moving the joint in all the ranges of motion is as effective as an adjustment.
Are there any age restrictions for chiropractic treatments?
There are no age restrictions for chiropractic treatments.
What other areas of my body can be affected if I present hip pain?
If hip pain is present, other areas that can be affected include the knee and ankle joints, SI joint and low back. These areas are important to assess along with the hip to determine the root cause of the hip pain.
